Why should we look after the skin on our body in the same way as our face?

Skincare shouldn't stop at just your face, as the skin on our bodies deserves the same level of TLC. We talk a lot about skin stressors and the damage they can cause to our complexions. However, the same goes for the skin on our bodies! For example, micro-abrasions from shaving, sun exposure and a build-up of excess oils can all lead to troublesome skin. If active ingredients can help our faces, why can't they be the same for our bodies?

Taking proper care of the skin on your body can be beneficial beyond just its appearance. In the wise words of our Development Chemist Faye, "it's instinctive to look after the parts of yourself that face the world as a priority. Many people get manicures all year long, but leave their pedicures for the summer! Looking after the skin on the body is self-care at its finest. I think once you start taking care of the parts of yourself only you see, self-care routines start making a difference."

What are the best ingredients for your body?

The skin on our body is often much drier than our faces. Using bodycare products that are supercharged with hydrating active ingredients is a great way to combat this. Hyaluronic Acid is one of our most loved ingredients at Q+A, and for good reason. Humectant's (which draws moisture from the atmosphere), are best applied to damp skin, which means it's the ideal addition to a shower routine. Dry skin and irritation can be signs of a compromised skin barrier, often caused by external stressors. A typical example is hair removal. Almost every method will somewhat damage the skin, whether micro-abrasions from shaving or irritation from waxing. Ceramides are a vital component in protecting the skin and maintaining healthy functioning.
