Why do my lips dry out faster than my face?

A:

Have you ever noticed that your lips seem to become dry or uncomfortable before the rest of your skin? The reason comes down to something surprisingly simple: your lips are built differently. salon-fresh colour isn't always easy.

Unlike the skin on your face, lips don't have oil glands. These glands produce natural oils that help keep skin soft and maintain its natural protective barrier. Combined with a weaker skin barrier, this means, lips have a much harder time holding onto hydration.

The skin on your lips is also significantly thinner than the skin elsewhere on your body, making it more vulnerable to moisture loss and environmental stressors such as cold weather, wind, UV exposure, and dry indoor heating.

What makes it worse?

Licking your lips feels like relief but actually speeds up moisture loss - saliva evaporates quickly and takes hydration with it. Breathing through your mouth in cold air has the same effect. And irritating ingredients and artificial fragrances can also dry out your lips.

What actually helps?

You need to use ingredients that replace what lips can’t produce themselves. Humectants that draw in moisture. Emollients that seal it in. And actives that deliver results.

That's the thinking behind the new Q+A lipcare range - three balms, each built around a different concern, and all 100% natural.

Ideal for dry, dehydrated lips this Hyaluronic Acid powered balm provides an instant surge of hydration, delivering intense moisture for soft, smoother-looking lips. Shea Butter provides deep nourishment and antioxidant-rich Pomegranate Seed Oil helps protect against moisture loss. Finished with a subtle berry tint, it gives the lips a natural flush.

For lips that need replenishing, this balm delivers intense nourishment and protection. Powered by a conditioning blend of Shea Butter and Squalane alongside antioxidant-rich Super Berry Extract, it works to keep lips comfortable throughout the day. It leaves lips feeling restored with a natural, healthy-looking finish.

For lips showing signs of ageing, this hydrating balm is designed to enhance natural fullness and smoothness. Vegetable Collagen and Omega-9 work together to lock in moisture and support elasticity, while Raspberry Seed Oil Esters targets the appearance of fine lines on and around the lips. With a subtle rosy-pink tint, it leaves lips feeling plumper, softer and deeply moisturised.

Your lips work harder than the rest of your skin with fewer defences, so give them what they deserve with the same consistency you bring to the rest of your routine.
