What does it do?
Salicylic Acid is the most common and well-known Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA). Its exfoliating properties help the skin to appear smoother and brighter by speeding up cell turnover. Its small molecular size allows it to penetrate deeper into pores, helping to target blemishes and decongest pores.

This ingredient is best used in the evening and can be used daily.
Those with sensitive skin should consider introducing it slowly to build up tolerance, as with any BHA ingredient! -
Salicylic Acid can be naturally derived from the willow tree bark or made synthetically.

Salicylic Acid is ideal for oily, combination or blemish-prone skin types. It's an oil-soluble ingredient, meaning it has the ability to penetrate into the pore lining and deeply exfoliate. This makes it especially effective for reducing breakouts, including blackheads and whiteheads.
It's also a great choice if you struggle with rough, textured, or bumpy skin on your body. -
Salicylic Acid works well with Niacinamide to help minimise the appearance of pores and control oil levels. It also works well with White Willow Bark Extract and oat-based ingredients, like Colloidal Oat.
However, you should avoid using BHAs alongside AHAs like Glycolic or Lactic Acid or physical exfoliators like Jojoba Beads to prevent over-exfoliation and irritation.
This gel-based Body Wash works to gently exfoliate, smooth and soften the skin. It’s the perfect product for those prone to ‘backne’, strawberry skin or unwanted texture.

As Salicylic Acid promotes cell turnover, bringing dead skin cells, dirt and oils to the surface, it can sometimes lead to breakouts in the short term. This is known as skin purging and should disappear once your skin adapts. Read more about skin purging here.
BHAs can increase the skin's risk of sunburn, so it's important to apply SPF daily and limit sun exposure when using this ingredient.
