Mineral Hybrid UV Filters

What does it do?

A blend of mineral and organic (chemical) filters, which work to both reflect and absorb UV rays to protect the skin from sun damage. Using new-generation encapsulation technology, much lower levels of UV filters can still achieve a high sun-protection factor as the filters evenly cover the skin for broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection.

A lower level of UV filters helps to ensure a sunscreen that is non-greasy and feather-light, with high-protection and minimal white cast! The filters are also photostable, meaning the protection won’t degrade in the presence of sunlight. However, it will still need reapplying throughout the day for maximum protection, especially after towelling or swimming.

Where does it originate from?

This blend of mineral and organic filters originates from a combination of natural and synthetic sources.

When should I use it?

This ingredient is best used each morning to protect the skin from UV rays. You should protect your skin with SPF daily, no matter the weather.

What skin type is it best suited to?

Mineral hybrid UV filters are suitable for all skin types.

What does it work well with?

Mineral-hybrid UV filters are a great addition to your routine if you’re a Retinol or AHA user as this ingredient can make your skin more sensitive to UV rays. However, it's important for everyone to protect their skin daily from UVA and UBA rays.

What else do I need to know?

Traditional sunscreens (the thick, heavy, greasy, gloopy type) can contain up to 50% UV filters to achieve an SPF 50. This new generation encapsulation technology uses much lower levels to achieve an SPF 50. But low UV filter levels don’t mean low SPF - the filters evenly cover the skin for broad-spectrum protection.

Broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection address two types of skin damage—ageing and burning. UVA rays are shorter in wavelength and penetrate further into the layers of skin, causing photoageing. UVB rays are longer and only penetrate the surface of the skin, causing it to burn. Both types of rays can be a contributing factor of skin cancer, so it’s essential to keep your skin protected.
